North West’s Leading Firm of Chartered Surveyors Moves East

It has been announced today that H&H Bowe, the leading firm of Chartered Surveyors in the North West, are moving East. Having just acquired Lanchester based Nicholson and Weston, the company is to be known as H&H Land and Property. This major business expansion is part of the H&H Group’s continued growth and is as a result of increased demand for their services across the North East and North Yorkshire.

Nicholson & Weston and H&H Bowe are 2 long established names in the Land Agency Sector, in bringing together the two names, it was decided to rename the company H&H Land & Property,  www.hhland.co.uk which highlights H&H and provides a brand that can continue to grow and expand nationally in the future.

Managing the North East Office will be David Quayle, former Managing Director of Nicholson and Weston, who will be joined by all of his existing staff. The North Eastern branch will be based in offices at Aykley Heads in Durham, specifically chosen for their location, parking and accessibility.

H&H Bowe has operated as part of the H&H Group since 1999. However, the Land Agency Business is certainly one the oldest in the North West, established well over 100 years ago, and very much part of the H&H heritage. The Head office of H&H Land and Property will remain based at Rosehill, Carlisle. This is an exciting move for both the company and its staff – with all existing personnel being offered a rewarding career path in the new organisation.

“This acquisition is the merging of two companies which are well known and respected in their areas. Both have a modern approach with strong traditional values, however, it was time for both to grow and evolve,” says Brian Richardson, Chief Executive of the H&H Group.

“Due to increased business, we have been looking to expand in terms of both office space and staff for a considerable time, and the acquisition of Nicholson and Weston was an ideal opportunity. As a result, all specialist advice and services such as Forestry, Planning and Renewables will now be handled in house by the H&H Land and Property specialists. Once the staff are in place, the aim is for H&H Land and Property to become as familiar to the North East as it is in its native Carlisle and the Scottish Borders.”

The Carlisle based H&H Group PLC, which recently announced profits of £1.21million are a progressive company committed to all of their businesses. Three years ago the group employed 160 people today it has 245 members of staff.

The other companies within the Group are: Harrison & Hetherington, the UK’s Largest livestock marketing company; H&H Insurance Brokers, specialising in rural farm insurance; H&H Borderway Finance, specialist motor finance; H&H Reeds Printers, the largest traditional and specialist printers in the North West; H&H Motor Auctions; H&H King, Carlisle Based Estate Agents and H&H Auction Rooms.

Commenting on this business expansion John Robson, Managing Director of H&H Land and Property said: “David Quayle is very well known and respected in the industry and this is a natural development and a great opportunity for the H&H Group. It represents an evolution of services, not a revolution, but we are definitely thinking of expansion of our marketplace. One aim of the company is to become a new national force in Land Agency. Moving into Durham is a step in the right direction to meet that aim.”

A founder of the Northumberland and North Durham Agricultural Valuers Association, Nicholson and Weston has been based in Lanchester since it was launched in 1918. David Quayle has been with the company for the last 30 years is now a Director of H&H Land and Property, says of the new business:

“H&H Bowe had an increasing number of clients who came to them from the North East and due to increased demand we were having to send some of the work out of the region, so it made sense to combine the two businesses. We will offer a broad range of specialist services and to meet our business requirements we have today launched a recruitment drive for ten new members of staff.”

“We need Senior and Junior Surveyors, two Assistant Surveyors, a Town Planner, Buildings Surveyors and a GIS Technician. We are looking for specialists, and if you are keen to try a new challenge, check our website for the areas of skills and experience we need.”

Like all of the companies in the group, H&H Land and Property are committed to expansion and supporting the local economies in which they operate.
