FABULOUS ‘FABIO’ SELLS FOR 120,000GNS (£126,000)

AT LIMOUSIN SALE AND SETS NEW WORLD RECORD

Limousin trade on fire and smashes UK all-breeds record

sale average with 131 bulls selling to average £8,243

The world record for the Limousin Breed of Cattle and the UK Bull record have been broken over the weekend at the 34th National Early Spring Show & Sale of Pedigree Limousin Bulls. Auctioned by Harrison & Hetherington at Borderway Mart in Carlisle, Dolcorsllwyn Fabio took the world record breaking spotlight on Saturday selling for 120,000 guineas.

This was a Limousin sale of sensational trading which included:-

  • UK & European record £126,000 for a bovine animal
  •  UK all-breeds and centre record average of £8,243 (up by over £2,000)
  •  Sale average up on the year by £3,214 for 18 more bulls sold
  •  Northern Irish record for a Limousin bull of £39,900
  •  UK all-breeds record average of £10,084 for Junior Section Bulls
  •  25 bulls make 10,000gns or more
  •  UK & European record of £31,500 for a Black Limousin bull
  •  92% clearance rate of bulls
  •  Sale grosses over £1 Million
  •  International sales to USA & Holland

As well a breaking a world record, Dolcorsllwyn Fabio put forward by Welsh breeders Glyn Vaughan of the Dolcorsllwyn herd based in Machynletth near Powys, also took Junior and Supreme Champion of the show.

Dolcorsllwyn Fabio is a 17 month old son of Fieldson Alfy and out of a Mas du Clo bred mother, Dolcorsllwyn Awen. The successful buyers were local breeders Messrs Jenkinson of the Whinfellpark herd based near Penrith. The immediate plans for Dolcorsllwyn Fabio are that he will go straight into isolation and thereafter, pending all his tests, semen will be collected for world-wide use.

For Harrison and Hetherington, understandably this was a fantastic day’s trading and certainly one that will feature in the company’s long list of successes:  “‘We are delighted that this record price was achieved at Carlisle, the home of the Limousin breed.  The sale average of £8,242 was incredible as this represents an increase of over 30% on the previous successful sales”,   commented David Pritchard, Operations Director of auctioneers Harrison and Hetherington.

“There is huge confidence within the cattle industry sector although commercially numbers have declined nationally which in turn has created a supply and demand trend causing prices to increase.”

“The quality of animals presented by breeders at this sale was a credit to the industry which everyone can be proud of.”

Ian Kerr, Chief Executive of the British Limousin Cattle Society attended the sale and commented on the day’s success;

“It was an incredible day and the best pedigree auction that we have ever seen in the UK for any breed. The highest compliments have to be paid to the Limousin breeders and everyone at the sale because there were 131 bulls sold representing a 92% clearance rate. The commercial beef producers in the UK are recognising the profitability of the Limousin breed and the breeders themselves are meeting that demand by producing the type of animals that the markets need.”

“To have such a fantastic sale and for it to be finished with a world record Limousin price was absolutely amazing and the society send their congratulations to the breeders.”

“We were also excited by that fact that it was young auctioneer James Little of Harrison & Hetherington who handled the sale with such a great ability. We were all delighted to see him achieve such a high price so early in his auctioneering career”.

Bulls were sold as far as Holland and America bringing an international element to the sale.

In all 25 bulls sold for 10,000 guineas and above and the overall sale average was an incredible £8,242.67 with the junior section levelling at £10,084.
