Shop Local with Henry

Local Lad, Henry Malton, launches service to deliver local produce to your door.

A gap in the local food market identified by 19-year-old Henry Malton of Whitley Bay has inspired him to provide a new service, Henry’s Local, which brings local produce to the people rather than expecting the people to search out the local produce. The service currently covers the Whitley Bay, Tynemouth and Cullercoats areas but there are plans to expand.

Launched last week and already with hundreds of followers, Henry’s unique service, www.henryslocal.co.uk, rounds up more than a dozen local producers, makers and growers, and places the fruits of their labours on his online. Having made your selection, and chosen an afternoon or evening delivery slot, Henry happily delivers it to your door.

Henrys Local’s list of local producers features many who are already household names, but all are just out of reach for those who are used to a one-stop supermarket shop. These include, Nicholson’s Butchers, Tom Owens, Earth and Fire Bakery, the Acorn Dairy, Northumberland Cheese Company, Matfen Eggs, Jean’s Jams, Pete’s Puddin, Fentimans, and The Tynemouth Coffee Company.

This range brings together meat, fruit & veg, bakery, dairy & eggs, larder fillers, weekend treats, dog treats, and, seasonally, bespoke Christmas hampers. All the customer needs is to log on to the website, to choose and pay for their basket, choose a convenient time slot and Henry will collate their order and deliver.

The story behind Henrys Local is one of his drive and ambition. Henry says: “Entrepreneurialism runs in my veins, not education.” So, though only 19, he has turned his back on a course at Durham University, and set to work on his idea. Seeing the strength of the supermarkets, he has decided to take them on, as more and more people want to shop local.

He adds “Research demonstrates that increasingly many more would shop locally if it was more convenient. The supermarkets have benefitted at the expense of the High Street and local businesses, and I want to reverse this. Together, we can help our local Davids beat the Global Goliaths.”

“I have made the process very simple: visit the web site, place the order and I will deliver it to your home or workplace.”

With his brightly coloured van, and his service underway, Henry has already picked up 5* reviews on his site. Their feedback confirms this is a very customer focused service combined with the highest quality of produce.

“The operations side is working well,” says Henry, and in celebration of this, and the festive season, he’s offering £5 off, when customers spend £30 before Xmas. Henry’s Local also offers a range of Christmas hampers and fruit & vegetable boxes and a true taste of the North East.

First orders and repeat orders of over £30 are delivered free, and the full list of local produce that can be delivered to your door is available 24/7 on the website.

So, for those looking to support local producers and a local lad, and for a fantastic range of local products and a warm and friendly service, you just need to visit Henry at Henryslocal.co.uk
