Glendale Seeking Rural Heroine
The Glendale Agricultural Society (GAS) and Rural Marketing and PR Agency, Glendale PR and Marketing, are looking for a Rural Heroine of Glendale.
Both organisations recognise the vital contribution women make to farming, rural life, countryside businesses and agriculture. Glendale has a host of female farmers, business owners, entrepreneurs, ambassadors and volunteers, and the aim of the ‘2016 Rural Heroine of the Year’ award is to recognise this. The contest is open to women of all ages living in the Glendale area who have made their mark on this rural community.
All nominations will be reviewed by a team of judges including award sponsor. The judges will be looking for entrepreneurship, inspiration, innovation or community involvement. They will take into account what makes this individual remarkable and the impact that they have had in terms of their business or community. The winner will be announced at the Glendale Show and will receive the Rural Heroine Trophy.
Giving further background to the award Barbara Huddart Managing Director of Glendale PR said: “The Oxford Dictionary definition of a Heroine is ‘a woman admired for her courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities.’ This is exactly what we are looking for and I know that Glendale has many, so I do hope that will receive the nominations to reflect this.
Ladies can either be nominated, or nominate themselves, and entry forms are available from www.glendaleshow.com or at The Glendale Show Office. Final nominations must be made by Friday 19th August and can be either emailed to [email protected] or posted to The Glendale Show Office, The Cheviot Centre, Padgepool Place, Wooler, Northumberland NE71 6BL.
Other initiatives as part of the Year of the Lady Theme are:
- Ensemble of lady judges at the show.
- Sheep Tales Wool Display.
- Artist Anna Turnbull weaving a life size horse.
- Sheep Dog demonstration from Katie Cropper (the first woman to win One Man and His Dog) and her daughter Henrietta.
- Best Dressed Lady Competition sponsored by Wooler based Stephanie Louise Designs.
- GAS Ladies Choir Performance.
