The Glendale Horticultural and Industrial Society are searching for people to Knit A Dog Coat for B.A.R.K, as part of their annual showcase at The Glendale Show.

The Glendale Horticultural and Industrial Society are now welcoming entries for the Industrial section, to be judged at Glendale Show, on Bank Holiday Monday 27th August 2018. This year, in aid of Berwick Animal Rescue Kennels (B.A.R.K), they have introduced a special class for those with knitting skills – ‘Knitted Dog Coat’.

Each year, one of the show’s true highlights is the Horticultural and Industrial Tent, known by many as one of the very best showcases of baking, handicrafts, fruit, floral art and vegetables in the north of England. From wild flowers to walking sticks, decorated hats to dog coats and miniature gardens to marmalade, there is a class for every individual.

The Industrial Tent has a range of sections including; Baking, Jams, Wine, Handicrafts, Photography, Walking Sticks and the Children’s classes, which test their cookery, creativity and handwriting skills.

The Knitted Dog Coats will be donated to the charity, which is based in Ramparts Business Park, Berwick upon Tweed, after the show.

Jane Cook, Joint Secretary of the Industrial section of the Glendale Horticultural and Industrial Society with Julie Tait and Sarah Jones, added:

“Every year entries in the industrial section are of a very high standard, portraying just how creative and talented the people of Glendale are. There are classes from complete beginners to those with a lifelong skill. As part of the baking section, we have a ‘Disaster Class’, so if an entry doesn’t turn out the way you planned, there is still a class to enter!

I am delighted that we have included the knitted dog coat class in this years’ schedule and, as a standalone organisation, we are very pleased to be donating the coats to B.A.R.K. The charity was founded in October 2000 and has since then offered temporary accommodation and veterinary treatment to every domestic animal in need. These coats will not only provide warmth to the dogs, but could provide comfort to those who may have had a hard time and need to feel secure.”

Entry forms for the Horticultural and Industrial section can be found in the Glendale Show List of Prizes brochure and can also downloaded from the website. All H & I entries are to be submitted to the show office no later than Wednesday 22nd August 2018.
