Chamber Music on Tap

Liquid Architecture, an award-winning chamber ensemble formed by outstanding graduates of the UK’s leading conservatories will feature at the 2nd Northumberland Music Festival. The group of outstanding young performers will be performing at Eshott Hall on the 12th November . They will present two concerts – an informal afternoon performance, accompanied by a workshop discussion, and an evening concert. Both will be accompanied by either lunch or dinner.

With the aim of excelling in their interpretations of classical works, and promoting new music for mixed ensembles, Liquid Architecture has performed in venues around London and won many awards.

Tickets are expected to sell fast and festival organiser Barbara Huddart said: “Liquid Architecture will present the Festival’s Chamber Music programme, an integral part of any traditional music festival. It is an inspiring group which champions a crisp young style, and presents its chosen programme with freshness and enthusiasm. Eshott Hall is the perfect setting for their unique sound.”

The ensemble first came together in 2005 to perform the Schubert Octet at the inaugural Chelsea Schubert Festival.  The name Liquid Architecture was inspired by a quote from Goethe “The best form of architecture is frozen music”, with the theory that the inverse is also true: the best form of music is Liquid Architecture.

Liquid Architecture represents three families of the orchestra – strings, wind and brass; comprising of a string quartet, double bass, clarinet, bassoon, and horn. Their aim is excelling in their interpretation of classical works, championing neglected repertoire and promoting new music for mixed ensembles.

The ensemble has continued to perform in venues around London including The Forge, Lauderdale House, St Olave’s Tower Hill, St John’s Waterloo, St Peter’s Vauxhall, St Saviour’s Pimlico, Holy Trinity Sloane Square and Regent Hall. In 2007 the ensemble gave the World Premiere of the octet by Philip Sawyers and performed music by Beethoven & Schubert for the Schubert Institute U.K.

They will present a varied programme of music closing with their renowned Schubert’s Octet.

The lunchtime concert takes the form of an interactive rehearsal workshop guaranteed to engage both players and audience in the deepest points of the music.

The performers are Tristan Gurney [Violin], Kate Lindon [Violin], Carol Ella [Viola], Rosalind Acton [Cello], Nicola Davenport [Bass], John Davy [Horn], Stuart Russell [Bassoon, and Richard Russell [Clarinet. The programme features the Rhapsodic Quintet, op. 31 by Herbert Howells, Octuor by Jean Francaix, and the Octet, D. 803 by Franz Schubert.

Taking place at the picturesque Eshott Hall near Morpeth, it is a Festival Event not to be missed.

The Northumberland Music Festival last year put the County the map as a music destination. Featuring Opera, Classical & Traditional Music, started a tradition of bringing performances of international calibre to the heart of the region.

The event is the brainchild of Robert Parker, the owner of three of Northumberland’s most prestigious venues – Doxford Hall, Eshott Hall and Guyzance Hall. Mr Parker is passionate about music and Northumberland, and believes the Festival will bring both together.

As he says: “Chamber music is the child of the salon and the country house and you will be amazed at the atmosphere that an ensemble like Liquid Architecture can create. Eshott Hall is the perfect place to hear it.”

In its second year the Festival will be supporting the efforts of three charities that work in the north: HospiceCare North Northumberland, Macmillan Cancer Support and Action Medical Research. As Barbara says: “These charities do fantastic work in the north, and rely heavily on the donations and support of the public, and in return they provide a unique, invaluable and irreplaceable service to the community.”

For anyone wishing to attend the concert and stay overnight at Eshott Hall is offering a special rate of £50 per person sharing a room Bed and Breakfast. Tickets are available from 01668 283100 – online via – www.nmfestival.com .
